| PX-238, Di-2 Ethyl Hexyl Adipate, is widely used with polyvinyl chloride resins as a highly efficient plasticizer that will impart excellent low temperature properties at moderate cost as well as excellent heat stability and weathering resistance. It is extensively used in the manufacturing of calendered sheeting where its good hand, drape, clarity, and "dry surface" result in increased sales appeal to the consumer. It is also used in extrusion compounds and in some films to impart improved low temperature flexibility. Since PX-238 is more volatile and slightly more expensive than DOP and DIOP, it is common practice to use a blend of these materials. The volatility of most such blends is low enough to permit processing under normal conditions without undue plasticizer loss. Plastisols and organisols prepared with PX-238 exhibit good initial viscosity and long shelf life. Dioctyl adipate is compatible with nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate butyrate, ethyl cellulose, and most synthetic rubbers. It has limited compatibility with polystyrene, polyvinyl butyral, and cellulose acetate. |
