APPLICATIONS:
Textiles Industry:
In textile industry Glyoxal and its derivatives such as DMDHU and KVS resins have wide applications, particularly in improving resistance to shrinkage and creasing of cotton, rayon and other cellulose and synthetic fibers. Also it is now widely used for wrinkle - free garments.
Pharmaceuticals Industry:
Glyoxal is used for making intermediates like imidazole 2- methyl imidazole and 2-methyl 5- nitro imidazole from which vital drugs metronidazole, tinidazole and dimetridazole are made. it also finds use in manufacture of pyrazinamide, ornidazole, and satranidazole etc. Glyoxal is USED in the production of glyoxylic acid, which finds use in pesticides, vanillin, and antibiotics etc.
Paper Industry:
glyoxal is used to cross link cellulose during paper manufacture and to improve the water resistance and wet strength of surface coated paper. it also used for making carobnless paper.
Other Applications:
Glyoxal's amino Phenol compounds, Aromatic Diamine compounds and Hydrazino compounds can be used to produce dyestuff intermediates. Glyoxal is frequently detected in fermented food and beverages. This is mainly due to microbial activity as well as non-enzymatic browning reactions such as Caramelization and Maillard reactions of Saccharides.
