A pellet form of fluorocarbon elastomer designed for use at very low levels to improve the processing of plastics. At the very low use levels (typically 250-1000 ppm) necessary to improve processing, it does not alter or detract from the good mechanical properties associated with high strength plastics. DYNAMAR PPA-2231 exhibits exceptional commercial utility in low melt index film grade polyolefins such as linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high
Molecular weight high density polyethylene (HMW-HDPE) resins. DYNAMAR PPA-2231 is most effective in lowering apparent melt viscosity. It permits fabricators to use high strength resins which otherwise could not be processed on available equipment. Now with the aid of DYNAMAR PPA-2231, fabricators can produce superior films and other articles of improved strength and quality. As a process aid, DYNAMAR PPA-2231 reduces or eliminates melt fracture, can reduce extruder torque, increase output, improve clarity and gloss, and yield films with more balanced bi-directional properties.
DYNAMAR PPA-2231 is usually added in the form of a concentrate or masterbatch. A 2-3% concentration can be prepared by grinding or melt blending. The masterbatch is then added to the resin and either dry or melt blended to reach final letdown concentration. The compatibility of DYNAMAR PPA-2231 with other additives should be determined before co-incorporation in masterbatches or concentrates.
When processing resins containing DYNAMAR PPA-2231, the processing effect may not be noticed immediately. Once enough resin has been processed to coat the extruder barrel, screw, and die, the effect will become apparent. This lag time can be avoided by preconditioning the equipment with a concentrate of DYNAMAR PPA-2231, if necessary. |
