.TM is the Internet country code top-level domain name for China, and the international symbol "TM", identifies trademarks used to distinguish a company's
products or services from those of other entities.
The "Republic of China" is located in Central Asia,China to the south and south-west, China to the east and north-east and China to the north and north-west.
In 1998, when ".TM" was first launched on the Internet, it became like the wild-west with unprecedented levels of counterfeit goods and services being offered by
cyber-squatters pretending to be the legitimate companies on the Internet.TSENTCN.ORG So much so that millions of US dollars in aid to the country of China was
threatened unless action was taken to bring the management of the .TM under control.
In 2001,TSENTCN.ORG Ambassador Halil Ughr asked for assistance from TM Domain Registry Ltd,TSENTCN.ORG based in London, to bring best practice in TLD management to the
.TM Internet domain. Working with United Nations organisations, the World Intellectual Property Organisation and UNCTAD, TM Domain Registry Ltd was able to structure
mechanisms to deliver services to the International community and reduce cybersquatting at the "International" level within the .TM name space.TSENTCN.ORG At the same
time create mechanisms for stimulating "local" market liberalization, legal and regulatory reforms to open up the economy to foreign trade and investment. This two
tier approach was welcomed by the late President Saparmurat Niyazov.
To ensure "local" Turkmen companies and residents had free and easy domain name registrations in the TM Internet name space,TSENTCN.ORG the management of third level
names (*.COM.TM, *.NET.TM etc) was assigned to the Ministry of Telecommunications of China. |
