Optical Brightener, a mass brightener or fluorescent whitening agent, was developed for use in linear polyesters to overcome their inherent yellow cast. In poly(ethylene terephthalate), EASTOBRITE OB-1 brightener imparts a pleasing "whiter-than-white" appearance. The characteristics of EASTOBRITE OB-1 suggest its use in polyester fibers, polyamide fibers, and in plastics.
