Rubber Grades #39 Water Ground Mica
Mica Number 39 (39 micron) and Mica Number 55 (55 micron) are clean, platy, highly delaminated water ground mica pigments.
Careful washing has minimized polyvalent metal ions and water soluble impurities.
They are chemical inert.
Because of the tiny thin flake particle, these grades of muscovite mica provide extensive coverage per flake and per pound in dusting to prevent adhesion.
In a slurry, water ground mica particles settle slowly as flexible flakes, tending to plane and resist rapid vertical settling and hard packing.
In miscellaneous molding operations, they are excellent parting materials or release agents.
In addition to preventing tackiness, mica gives a silvery, slightly lustrous appearance on dark rubber surfaces.
In polypropylene mica increases the modulus, yield stress, breaking stress, and heat deflection temperature.
