Dipropylene Glycol
Dipropylene glycol is a dihydroxy alcohol and undergoes reactions typical of this type of compound.
Of greatest commercial importance are the reactions in which various ether and ester derivatives are formed.
Dipropylene glycol diesters prepared by the reaction of dipropylene glycol and acids can be used as plasticizers, fuel additives, resins and components of paints and cosmetics.
A particularly important reaction of dipropylene glycol is with unsaturated dibasic acids, such as maleic acid or fumaric acid.
The resulting unsaturated polyester resins can then be crosslinked with styrene.
