Silicone Surfactant
The storage stability of B-4900 is at least 6 months, provided it is kept in originally sealed drums and protected against extreme weather conditions, particularly against heat and water. Cold is not a general problem because B-4900 has a solidification point below -10'C. Nevertheless it is recommendable to bring it up to ambient temperature before the material is used.
B-4900 represents a stabilizer of medium potency which is characterised by an exceptionally broad processing range. The stabilizer is applicable in the production of slabstock and moulded foams. Owing to its broad processing range B-4900 performs as equally well in the production of low to relatively high density foams as in formulations containing considerably different types and concentrations of activators or polyols of varying reactivity. These features make B-4900 especially valuable for the various square block processes. Flexible foams produced with B-4900 exhibit a high breathability and a high uniformity in density and physical properties from bottom to top of the blocks. As it is known by the foam producing industry, the activity of silicone surfactants and their processing latitude depend on each other in an opposite way. B-4900 fits into this picture as a foam stabilizer providing an optimum of open cell structure, processing latitude and based on this feature-all the advantages as metioned before without the necessity to use it at uneconomically high levels. Depending on the character of a foam formulation, i.e., type and amounts of blowing agents and activators as well as reactivity of the polyol used the concentration of B-4900 may vary between 0.6 and 1.8 p.b.w. per 100 p.b.w. of polyol. |
