Phytosterols are natural components of many vegetables and grains and have been widely used in medicine, cosmetics, food and animal feed stuffs.
Preliminary scientific evidence suggests that plant phytosterols may help to maintain normal cholesterol levels when consumed. As part of a low cholesterol dietary programme it can prevent cholesterol absorption, promote cholesterol metabolism, reduce cholesterol biosynthesis, and is used in the prevention and treatment of arteriosclerosis, canker, skin cancer, and cervical cancer. It also facilitates wound healing and increases micro-circulation. Phytosterol is an important raw material for Vitamin D3 synthesis and steroid drugs.
Phytosterol has high skin permeability and may be used as a skin moisturiser. It promotes skin rejuvenation and prevents skin damage caused by exposure to sunlight. In addition, it promotes hair growth. Skin lotions containing phytosterol as water/oil (W/O) emulsion, have a pleasant, non-oily feel and are resistant to degradation.
Phytosterol is also know as a first class anti-oxidant, and is widely used as food and animal feed additive, and does not contain any chemical contaminants.
